Supporting business in your community.
The Esquimalt Chamber of Commerce represents business interests at the Township level, while the BC Chamber of Commerce and Canadian Chamber of Commerce serve business interests at the provincial and national levels, respectively. The BC Chamber and Canadian Chamber work as a vital connection between business and the provincial and federal governments, taking the lead on provincial, national and international issues.
At the municipal level, the Esquimalt Chamber of Commerce strives to support projects and initiatives that support the following principles:
- The community will derive economic benefit from the project or initiative
- The project or initiative will drive local economic growth
- New residents will be attracted to the area through the project or initiative
- Local businesses will have access to a greater client base
- The project or initiative will increase the supply of commercial, retail and/or office space for local businesses
- The project or initiative will support employees living and working in Esquimalt and will decrease the necessity to commute.

Waterways Loop - December 13, 2019

Re: Victoria Waterways Loop
We understand that at the December 16 Council Meeting, Councillor Ken Armour is making a Notice of Motion regarding the Victoria Waterways Loop.
The loop fully circumnavigates Esquimalt, and the social and tourism benefits to our community are obvious. There will be an economic benefit for existing business on the loop, and hopefully create the opportunity for new related commercial enterprises.
This location very near the Gorge Point Pub is ideal for a safety portage/ramp to avoid the dangerous Tillicum Narrows. A secure kayak lock-up would allow paddlers to take a break and visit the only existing pub in our community. Wayfinding signs would show visitors the way to other nearby points of interest, such as Esquimalt Gorge Park, and highlight the local First Nations archaeological history.
The Chamber is supportive of the Victoria Waterway Loop, and encourages the Township to further pursue this capital project.
Sincerely,
Chris Edley

Re: Proposed Rental Apartments at 681 and 685 Admirals Road
Thank you for the opportunity to provide our input on 681 and 685 Admirals Road .
In general, the Chamber is supportive of this project. As host to the largest employer in the region, quality workforce housing may be appealing to those who work at CFB Esquimalt and commute from elsewhere. This location is ideally positioned to fill this need, by putting rental stock right at the gates of the base. Encouraging current workers to both live and work in Esquimalt has the benefit of reducing congestion on our roads. Attracting new residents to Esquimalt also helps to enhance our business community by increasing the potential client base for existing businesses, and an opportunity for new business to develop in our area.
The Chamber looks forward to this development in our community.
Sincerely,
Chris Edley

Re: 899 Head Street
Thank you for the opportunity to provide our input on the proposed development at 899 Head Street.
In general, the Chamber is supportive of this project, recognizing the economic benefits to our community that a project such as this can bring. Economic growth is an iterative process of bringing in new residents, who provide a strong client base for our existing businesses. A growing community is also seen as an opportunity for new businesses to develop or relocate here, providing a growing variety of services for Esquimalt. The addition of quality commercial/retail space is also a welcome addition to our community.
The Chamber looks forward to this development in Esquimalt.
Sincerely,
Chris Edley

Re: Official Community Plan Amendment for 681 and 685 Admirals Road
Thank you for the opportunity to provide our input on 681 and 685 Admirals Road .
The Esquimalt Chamber of Commerce fully supports the OCP amendment designating the Development Permit Area as ‘Multi-Family Residential’.
In general, the Chamber is supportive of this project. As host to the largest employer in the region, quality workforce housing may be appealing to those who work at CFB Esquimalt and commute from elsewhere. Encouraging current workers to both live and work in Esquimalt has the benefit of reducing congestion on our roads. Attracting new residents to Esquimalt also helps to enhance our business community by increasing the potential client base for existing businesses. And of course, there is the benefit of an increasing residential property tax base.
The Chamber looks forward to this development in our community.

Re: Official Community Plan Amendment for Shoaling Heights
Thank you for the opportunity to provide our input on the upcoming redevelopment of 616 & 620 Constance, 519 & 623 Nelson, and 1326 Miles Street (aka Shoaling Heights).
The Esquimalt Chamber of Commerce fully supports the enhanced land use for this property, and feels that the up-zoning provides a number of opportunities for our community. Esquimalt is in need of additional quality commercial space, and this development certainly provides that. And of course, there is the benefit of an increasing residential property tax base.
The Chamber looks forward to this development in our community.
Sincerely,
Chris Edley
